Duck! It’s mud slinging season

Yes, it’s mud-slinging season.

In my opinion, this ad is unconscionable. Not only is it fear mongering, it’s inaccurate. The “Ryan Plan” doesn’t even affect anyone over the age of 55. Medicare, as we know it, remains the same for those folks regardless of what happens. All this ad does is cause panic and fear in elderly voters. And no one is talking about the 800 pound gorilla in the room…Social Security and Medicare, as we know it, will begin to run out of money in 2024 and need to start reducing benefits. What happens then? Many don’t want any changes to the program, but that’s exactly what has to happen if we want anyone under the age of 50 to have access to it. Personally, I’m not counting on one penny from Social Security and Medicare, because I believe the government will successfully bankrupt the program before I get there.

And then there’s Harry Reid’s claim that Mitt Romney has not paid taxes for 10 years. This is essentially the equivalent of accusing someone of being a felon. Oh, Harry says he doesn’t actually know for sure.…but that doesn’t stop him from continually talking about it. And his source? A Bain Capital investor. Now tell me, if you’re the CEO of a huge company, are the company’s investors privy to your personal tax returns? I didn’t think so. So how could an investor know how much was paid in taxes for last year much less ten years? Now, he’s heard it from numerous sources. I think these “sources” should be revealed so they can be vetted for accuracy. Harry Reid should be ashamed of himself.

And then there’s the Democratic Super PAC, Priorities USA, that claimed Romney caused the death of Joe Soptic’s wife.

Soptic infers it’s Romney’s fault that he lost his job and insurance when Bain Capital closed steel mill, Worldwide Grinding Systems, in 2001. Romney actually left Bain Capital two years before that happened, and Mr. Soptic was offered a buyout by the new ownership before it closed. Mrs. Soptic had insurance through her employment, but her cancer was detected in its late stages and she died in 2006. But, that was seven years after Romney left Bain. The story is tragic, but to frame it as Romney’s fault and essentially accuse him of murder is bottom and the barrel low.

And just so you don’t think I’m not equally disgusted with the other side, there’s this ad by Republican Patrick Murphy against opponent Allen West.

It’s inexcusable to use children this way. Even though the ad is suppose to be a mash-up of accusations West has made against opponents, we never want to hear caustic, vile words like this come out of our kid’s mouths, do we? Patrick needs a time out…and maybe a good mouth-washing with some soap.

Gutter politics. Accuse the other person of being a murderer, felon or communist and then just sit back and enjoy the show.

So much for civility…and truth.

And with that, I’ll leave you with this funny while ducking the mud as we inch towards November.

Nothing personal against Jar jar Binks. I actually liked him!
