Beautiful Day-lily

Texture by Kim Klassen Café: paperlove
Technically, a daylily is a Hemerocallis. The Greeks were first to play the name game, using (hēmera) “day” and (kalos) “beautiful.” If you have them in your garden you know they open at sunrise and wither at the end of the day. Sort of sad when you think about it. I guess as a nature lesson, they’re telling us to make the most of each and every day of our life; to embrace the beauty and wonder of each day while we can.
Historically, Chinese moms grew daylilies in their gardens. When their children traveled from home, the cheerfulness of daylilies were to help moms forget their worries about them until they returned. Daylilies are now a symbol of mothers in Chinese culture.
