I’m at a loss for an explanation

Some things just have to be experienced before they can be understood.

Like grandchildren.

You’d think this wouldn’t be a big deal. After all, by the time we have grandkids, we’ve already done the lion’s share of that parenting thing. We birthed them, raised them, trained them, counseled them, cussed at them and loved them. What’s so diff with the next generation?

Big diff.

For some reason, and I can’t explain why, looking at your grandchild is so much different than looking at your own child at that age. Maybe it’s because we were too busy worrying about how others were evaluating our parenting skills. Maybe it’s because we were just too exhausted to realize how amazing they were. Maybe we were too busy trying to get them to dance, and baseball, and music lessons, and soccer, and tutoring, and science club, and youth group and and and and and.……

But grandchildren…wow…they’re great. And perfect. Ask any grandparent. :-) Especially the ones that don’t get to see their grandkids as often as they would like.

So, while I count reading and photography among my favorite hobbies, the one I plan to do best is missing my grandkids!
